Micro Credit

Repayment rates are very high, in part because each microcredit "club" takes responsibility for defaults of its members. Interest rates vary from 10 to 20% (simple interest) for 6 to 12 months loans. Funds are recycled into an ongoing stream of investments. This program will create a viable and sustainable economic system that will provide a financial base for the long-term support of the Kasimu School system.

Note 1: Microloans is described in detail at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microcredit
"Microcredit is the extension of very small loans (microloans) to the unemployed, to poor entrepreneurs and to others living in poverty. These individuals lack collateral, steady employment and a verifiable credit history and therefore cannot meet even the most minimal qualifications to gain access to traditional credit. Microcredit is a financial innovation that is generally considered to have originated with the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh. In that country, it has successfully enabled extremely impoverished people to engage in self-employment projects that allow them to generate an income and, in many cases, begin to build wealth and exit poverty."

Note 2: FINCA's mission is "to provide financial services to the world's lowest-income entrepreneurs"; today it reaches 725,000 clients in 21 countries. They provided free training of the KEF administrator.
