Schools

At the heart of our program are the schools

The Kasimu Grammar School (grades K-8) supports a population of 5,000 from the village of Manyesa and 7 other villages within a 2 miles radius. This public school of 1,300 students has overcrowded classrooms (class sizes ranging from 38 to 364), overworked teachers and poor facilities (no electricity and no running water).

In order to attract and retain qualified teachers KEF funds:

  • the construction of teacher housing on campus
  • monthly stipend to teachers and teacher aides
  • the college education of selected student teachers

KEF plans the construction of a high school (grades 9-12) on the same campus, at the rate of one two-classroom building per year.
