Malawi

Malawi is one of the poorest nations in the world.  This democratically governed country gained its independence from England in 1964 and has been struggling to improve education and economic conditions with limited resources. The residents of the eleven villages in Manyesa are dry land farmers. Farming success depends on rainfall and has become less reliable due to global warming. The villagers cannot afford tuition for secondary school.
